Car Plunges Into River, "Deal-Breaker" Sign Approved Top This Week's News

A River Edge woman whose car got soaked twice on Sunday — in a carwash and in the Hackensack River — suffered minor injuries after the car left the carwash and plunged into the river, authorities said. She was  John Goez and River Edge native Jay Orsino.

Under oath, representatives from 7-Eleven stated that without a monument sign on the corner of Kinderkamack Road and Van Buren Avenue, their would be shelved. The five foot and four-and-a-half inch internally light sign was debated for two hours before it was ultimately approved 6-2 by the River Edge Planning Board members.

Late Wednesday afternoon, River Edge Democratic candidate Robert Levine announced that he is dropping his campaign bid for one of the open borough council seats this November.

With just a month to go until the start of the school year, parents who send their students to  may also be facing construction traffic as  has still yet to begin. The $1 million dollar project to upgrade the  was initially expected to begin in April but was pushed back to a July 2 start date while a  nearby. As of this week, construction has yet to begin.

A 44-year-old man with a last known address in Paramus is currently in the intensive care unit at  following on Rt. 4 near the River Edge/Paramus border. The pedestrian, who darted across Rt. 4 heading from the east side to the west side was in the ICU has of Thursday afternoon after striking his head on the windshield and being thrown to the ground. As of Thursday, no charges were filed against the driver.

The annual River Edge Summer Camp program had one of its largest turnouts this year with over 300 children fom kindergarten up to sixth grade participating in the daily events at Veteran's Memorial Park.

As part of their year and a half birthday celebration, the River Edge-based Neighbors Helping Neighbors job seekers support group hosted their first annual barbeque and networking event atthis past weekend. To date, the group has 146 success stories of helping its members locate employment and branch out into 20 weekly library programs with plans to expand into five additional locations in the coming months.

The Star-Ledger reported this week that Frank Recanati of River Edge, who serves as the West New York's Plumbing Sub-code Official and Inspector, had called in sick to his 25-hour-a-week job in West New York a total of 33 times in 2010 and 2011 worked a majority of those days at five other New Jersey towns where he is also employed part-time, public records show. He also works as the plumbing sub-code official in Guttenberg in Hudson County, and Carlstadt, East Rutherford, Wallington and Hasbrouck Heights in Bergen County. He is also the Construction Official in Carlstadt.

The 18-year-old rising senior at River Dell just won the 95th Met Junior Championship by outlasting and outsmarting 63 of the best golfers in the tri-state area. He had to win six matches to prevail in the oldest junior championship in the nation, and he did it six different ways. The only common denominator between the matches was Kim’s ability to remain calm even when his heart felt like it was about to burst through his collared shirt.
