Around Town: Applying for a Construction Permit

A weekly glance at what you need to know from Borough Departments

The  will issue construction permits Monday through Friday, 8am to 3pm. Call the Construction/ Building Department at (201) 599-6322 prior to starting your project.

The  is open Monday through Friday, 8am to 4pm, with permits issued up to 3:30pm. For more information, call 201-261-8005.

Permits will be issued for the following projects: New construction, additions, alterations, replacing or installing a hot water heater, furnace/boiler, installing central air conditioning, decks, roofs, pools, siding, driveways, fences, bath and kitchen remodeling.

  • Recreation

The River Edge tennis courts are open from April to November, 8am to dusk. Permits for the courts can be purchased via the Recreation Office on Monday evenings, 7 to 9pm. Oradell residents wishing to use the courts until the Oradell courts are completed can contact Bobbi Conway at 201-599-6295.

  • Dog and Cat Licenses

In Oradell, if you forgot to renew your dog and cat licenses, you will be charged an additional $5 per month, per animal fine. All spayed or neutered animals have a $10 license fee, while all others are $15.

River Edge residents that have not registered their cats and dogs with the town will now have to pay a $6 penalty fee. Checks should be made payable to the Borough of River Edge and sent to the Health Department, 750 Kinderkamack Road, River Edge, NJ 07661. Fees for a neutered cat is $6 per animal or $8 for a non-neutered feline. Neutered dogs are $11 and non-neutered canines are $14.

  • Tax Office

The is open from 9am to 2pm weekdays, except holidays and Monday nights from 7pm to 8pm during collection periods only. You may also use our drop box which is conveniently located in the Police Department Lobby. To call regarding any Tax Collection matters, call 201-599-6311. The Tax Assessor's office is open Monday thru Friday, 8:30am to 2:30pm 

The Oradell part-time Tax Assessor is available Mondays, 4:30 tp 6pm and Tuesdays, 7 to 9pm. Call the office at 201-261-0204 with questions. The can be reached by calling 201-261-8101.

Tax bills are printed and mailed mid-year, every year. Each tax bill includes four (4) payment stubs including the quarterly payment amount and due date. Quarterly payments are due on the first of August, November, February and May. There is a ten (10) day grace period following each due date.

  • Health Department

Adrienne Capasso, Secretary to the will be in the office Monday, 9am to 1pm and Wednesday and Friday, 9am to 12pm. A Deputy Registrar will also be available on an as needed basis. The office can be reached by calling 201-599-6299.

Joanna McDonald, Registrar of the and Vital Statistics for Oradell will be in the office Monday through Friday, 9am to 1pm and can be reached by calling 201-261-8106.

If you require any Vital Statistics documentation (i.e. Marriage Licenses, Certified copies, etc.), please contact the Health Department and leave a detailed message as to the documentation/appointment you require. Messages will be retrieved and you will receive a return phone call.

  • DPW

The Oradell Recycling Center at the will be open the first and third Saturday of the month, 9am to 12pm. The dumpsters will be available to Oradell residents for the disposal of the following items: household garbage, newspapers, corrugated, cardboard boxes, cereal boxes, commingled recyclable materials cans & bottles, metal/white goods, brush, concrete and garden debris.

  • Fire Department

The River Edge and Oradell fire departments are always looking for additional members from Cadets, Juniors to Regular members.

  • Ambulance Corp

If you would like to join the New Milford/Oradell Volunteer Ambulance Corps or the River Edge Volunteer Ambulance Corp, feel free to come talk to the members.

  • Police

are accepting applications for School Crossing Guards and Auxiliary Police. Applications may be picked up at Police Headquarters by contacting Lt. Michael Oslacky (Aux) and Officer David Gangemi (Guards).

To serve as a River Edge Auxiliary Police officer, contact at 201-262-1233 or in person.

Residents who believe they have signed up with either NIXLE or SwiftReach to receive emergency notifications from either River Edge or Oradell should not assume they are on the contact list.
