Running to the Finish Line for Cancer Research

The has announced that the 31th Annual River Edge Run will be held on Saturday, April 21. And once again, will be one of the many sponsors for the 5K run and Healthwalk.

Last year, the event raised over $8,000 for the borough's park projects such as an upcoming new playground area near the Little League fields

This year, the Recreation Commission is teaming up with the Susan Fazio Foundation for Melanoma Research so as to assist in their fundraising efforts this year. The Commission welcomes those who wish to raise funds in honor of someone who has faced the devastations of melanoma, according to Recreation Director Bobbi Conway. 

“It is a great honor for Freedom Bank to once again sponsor the River Edge Run, and we are very proud to be a part of the efforts to raise money for melanoma research and education," said Barbara Komor, Freedom Bank Senior Vice President. "We encourage participants to sign up as soon as possible for the April event.”

The event begins with check in and day of race registration from 8:30am to 9:45am. The 5k Run Event will begin at 10am at  on Bogert Road. The 5k event is a nationally certified course which winds through tree lined streets with some grades and is a 500 pt. USATF New Jersey New Balance Grand Prix Event.

DJB Event Consultants, Inc. will handle race timing and race results will be provided by Best Computer Systems. Attractive trophies will be presented immediately after the 5k event to the top three male and female overall winners, top three male and female finishers of the thirteen age categories from 13 and under to 80 +.  

Gift certificates from  will go to first place finishers. First place male-female River Edge resident first place finishers by age category will receive trophies. Gift baskets to the top male and female finishers are provided by  of River Edge.

The one-mile Fun Run, sponsored by the River Edge Elementary Schools will start at 9am. The Healthwalk (5k) is sponsored by the River Edge Alliance Against Drugs and will start off at 10:05am. 

The major sponsors of this year's event aside from are the ,  of River Edge, , , , , , Applebee’s MARJ Properties, Inc., , the , Madison Spine and Physical Therapy and Parkway Toyota.

Day of Race fees are 5k - $25, Healthwalk - $12, Fun Run - $7. T-shirts are guaranteed to pre-registrants of all events. The proceeds from the event will benefit River Edge Parks.
