So, it’s fairly well understood that things have gotten appreciably better for women in the workplace over the past several years, right? Studies and articles abound that parade the great strides made by females as they compete for the same jobs as men, pull down the same -- or even higher -- wages, push doors open on their way to securing meaningful promotions and so forth.

In fact, in a 2012 book partly titled “The Richer Sex,” statistics tout that 38 percent of working women receive heftier paychecks than do their working husbands, a figure far higher than was the case a generation ago. Women are increasingly being profiled in financial magazines for their growing clout in business, with a number of female corporate presidents and CEOs being cited.

In applying the brakes to all the women-are-now-the-same-as-men fervor, a tandem team of authors argues that, notwithstanding some gains, gender discrimination in the workplace is very much alive and well.
