Elm Street Bridge Repairs Remain Stalled, Road Improvements, This Week in Local News

No Completion in Sight for Elm Street Bridge

According to the Oradell Borough Engineer, the repair project on the Elm Street Bridge has been 'significantly delayed' because the contractor has halted work and has been unresponsive to county engineers. The three ton bridge has been closed to vehicular traffic since 2008. In 2011 it was included on a list of structurally deficient bridges.

Oradell Commits to Road Improvement Program

The governing body of Oradell approved a $1.5 million bond ordinance at their meeting Wednesday that will allow for the paving and improvement of the following eight borough roads. Oradell's governing body has identified that the municipal roads are as important to maintain as the sewers and have funded the road program for 2013 for $600,000. Previously, the amount allocated in the budget for road improvements was $200,000.  

River Edge Mayor and Council to Apply for Grant for Cherry Blossom Park

With the voiced dissent of Councilmen Alphonse Bartelloni and Anthony Cappola, a resolution passed to apply for open space grant funding for Cherry Blossom Park. Both Bartelloni and Cappola are in favor of Cherry Blossom Park, but feel the Mayor and Council should focus open space grant funding on completing the lighting project at Kenneth B. George Field, and not divert any potential Open Space grant funding to another project until the lighting is complete.

The River Edge Swim Club is taking applications for its August only membership plan. Use of club on weekdays, from August 1 through August 31 is $304.95 for the entire family. This includes 7% New Jersey Sales Tax. Click here for more information. 

Patch Helps Meals on Wheels, Shines Light on a Good Cause

Patch volunteered to help Jeanne Martin, Director of Meals on Wheels Pascack Valley, deliver food to people who are homebound with an illness. With 400 volunteers, Meals on Wheels is always looking for more people to help them deliver food.

Crowds Come Out for Twisted Charm

With the threat of rain avoided, crowds came out with blankets, chairs and picnic dinners to listen to a live outdoor performance by the band Twisted Charm.
