All are welcome to attend this free showing of the critically acclaimed movie, "Moneyball," starring Brad Pitt as the general manager of the Oakland Athletics. Hot Cocoa and popcorn will be served. Sponsored by Friends of the River Edge Library.

"BRAD PITT IS A HIT IN MOVIE THAT FINDS THE HUMOR AND FRUSTRATION OF LIFE IN THE FRONT OFFICE OF A BASEBALL TEAM. In 2002, amid much opposition, Oakland A's general manager Billy Beane revives his sorry little ball club by using statistical analysis to hire undervalued players - freaks and losers who nevertheless manage to get on base. "Moneyball" is a hilarious and provocative change-up, entertaining without feeling the need to swing for the fences. It's all talk but the best kind of baseball talk, funny and wise and alive to the pleasures of saying as much as possible in the fewest words. Like the fresh thinking it celebrates, "Moneyball" finds value in the quieter moments and the workaday players. It's an infield single but the one that wins the game."--Ty Burr, Boston Globe

I just saw this yesterday ... thought it was a really good movie. It's funny because I just finished reading Super Freakonimics which explains human behavior and world tendencies through economic principles and I felt like the idea of statistics and analytical to have a successful Baseball team was an extension of that book.
