Batteries Plus Bulbs offers more than 30,000 kinds of batteries and more than 10,000 kind of lightbulbs.
As federal regulations phase out incandescent lightbulbs over the next few years and new energy-efficient technologies to replace them continue to be developed, the market for lightbulbs can be confusing for consumers. Tom Davis and Batteries Plus Bulbs, located on Route 17 south in Paramus, aim to shed a light on the changing options and help people find what's best for them. "What we try to do is simplify it for the consumer," Davis said. Davis opened Batteries Plus in Paramus a year ago this month. Since then, they have helped local residents through power outages from Hurricane Sandy and won the company's award for best new store in 2012. Now the store is adding "bulbs" to their name to emphasize their selection of more than 10,000 …

HUMC-Pascack Valley CEO Chad Melton wants the hospital to increase bed counts within the next few years, according to northjersey.com. Melton said he doesn't think Bergen competitors will "lose volume" as a result.
With Valley Hospital struggling to modernize its own facilities through a controversial expansion project, a major competitor announced it too has visions of expansion – and it's not even open for business yet. According to a Sunday report on northjersey.com, Hackensack University Medical Center at Pascack Valley is optimistic its new facility will drum up enough business to quickly expand. Pascack Valley Hospital declared bankrupcy in 2007 and has been dormant since. “If we truly have the volume here and the support we think, within the next three years we’ll be looking to add inpatient rooms,” Chad Melton, chief executive of the 128-bed hospital, told the news website. HUMC-Pascack Valley, scheduled to open June 1, is the first for-…

After four years, ground is finally broken Wednesday on the old Huffman Koos site.
Acknowledging the efforts of the mayor and council that preceeded him, Mayor Sandy Moscaritolo said that getting to the groundbreaking was "a long hard process." Senator Bob Gordon applauded progress on the long-awaited commercial redevelopment project at the site of the former Huffman Koos furniture store off Route 4 in River Edge during Wednesday's groundbreaking ceremony. “Today’s groundbreaking marks significant progress on this redevelopment project," Gordon said. "The new retail space slated for this site will help to revitalize the area, which serves as the gateway to the borough of River Edge.” The new commercial retail project, approved by the River Edge planning board in 2007, took over four years to break ground. According to …

After a four year delay, the former Huffman Koos lot will have its groundbreaking ceremony Wednesday.
After four years of waiting, the former Huffman Koos development project, approved in 2008, is finally going to begin Wednesday at noon with a groundbreaking ceremony. Route 4-Main Street LLC which is owned by Peter and Paul Ciancia was granted site plan approval by the Planning Board in the fall of 2007 to construct a trio of retail buildings on Main Street with Total Wine moving closer towards Rt. 4 into a new 30,000-square-foot building on the property. The former Huffman Koos building, located at Main Street and Kinderkamack Road, was demolished in 2008, but the project stalled as the economy weakened and the owners were required to spend $3 million in remediation efforts to remove trichloroethlyne per the state Department of …

A throwback storefront with the magic touch, Hubcap Joe's has weathered all economic storms and is going on 20 years strong.
Come on. How many times have you driven past Hubcap Joe's on Kinderkamack road and thought, "I'd love to stop in there." Not because you needed a hubcap, but because on a road punctuated by nail salons, Hubcap Joe's has a unique presence. And a unique story to go along with it. Joe DeMarco did not find hubcaps, hubcaps found him. Literally. As a young boy visiting his aunt in the Bronx, a hubcap from a Pontiac fell off and rolled right up to him as they made their way towards the El to go shopping. "The guy in the Pontiac backed-up to look for it, but didn't get out of his car to pick it up and just drove away," Joe said. DeMarco asked his aunt if he could keep the hubcap, but she told him that they needed to shop first and if it was there…
