Friends,
Now that I hopefully peaked your interest about the therapeutic grade essential oils, I would like to introduce you to what and how they can be used.
Therapeutic grade essential oils can be used for anything and everything you can think of:
- Aromatherapy and Massage Therapy
- Mind & Emotion; Yoga Health
- Personal Care (Bath, Body, Hair & Skin)
- Cleansing & Weight Management
- Bone, Digestive, Heart & Immune Health, Men & Women Health
- Oral Care and Household
- Nutrition
- Pet Health
Essential Oils are aromatic liquids, distilled from flowers, trees, roots, bushes, and seeds of plants. The distillation process is what makes essential oils so concentrated. It often requires an entire plant or more to produce a single drop of distilled essential oil.
The therapeutic grade essential oils (TEOs ) are very easy to use. You can either put them on your skin, in your food and drink, or simply smell and diffuse.
Since TEOs are concentrated, they need to be used sparingly - from 1 to 3 drops. For example, you would put only 1 drop of Peppermint therapeutic grade essential oil in your drink, and 3 drops on your feet. When put on skin the oils penetrate immediately. The effectiveness is as such that, for example, 1 drop of Peppermint oil equals 28 cups of tea!
Please keep in mind that only high quality whole and pure unadulterated therapeutic grade essential oils can be used internally.
Therapeutic grade essential oils come from plants, and as you know, some are quite hot, like Oregano and Thyme. However, there is no need to fear using these oils - therapeutic grade essential oils are fat soluble. For example, if you mix 4 drops of olive or another vegetable oil of your preference, with 1 drop of the Oregano TEO, it will not feel hot at all. In fact, you don't need to remember the dilution ratio - every TEO has a dilution ratio printed on the bottle containing the oil.
Here are some of the oils you can use every day:
- Lemon (anti-cancerous, delicious in lemonade)
- Lavender (relaxing, for burns)
- Geranium (sun screen)
- Ylang Ylang (aphrodisiac)
- Grapefruit (burns fat)
- Basil (for nerves and lungs)
- Fennel (for digestion)
- Orange (mood elevating)
- Lemongrass (for arthritis)
- Frankincense (skin, lungs, cancer)
I think you are getting an idea of why therapeutic grade essential oils are called "therapeutic". In fact, each oil has more than one benefit. Take, for example, therapeutic grade essential of Lavender.
- Inhale lavender essential oil to soothe and relax the body and mind
- Make an herbal tea by mixing 2 drops of lavender essential oil with 1 teaspoon of blue agave syrup and adding to warm water
- Add 4–5 drops of lavender essential oil to a bath gel base and use in warm bath for relaxation
- Drop 1–2 drops of lavender essential oil on your pillow to aid in a restful night of sleep
- Massage several drops of lavender essential oil on feet to promote relaxation
Lavender oil also promotes tissue regeneration, speeds up wound healing, cleanses cuts, bruises and skin irritations.
I am simply in awe with these oils and would love to share my knowledge. Please let me know what else you would like to know about the oils.
To your health!

Thetentman,
Thank you for your continued interest in my posts. Did you read my reply to your previous comment to http://ridgewood.patch.com/blog_posts/what-are-essential-oils?
As far as the price for a bottle of oil (usually 250 drops) and the amount that needs to be used (1 to 3 drops), topped with the quick beneficial effect and no need for other treatments - there is no comparison. Besides, therapeutic grade essential oils last forever. Additionally, if you think how much plant material, time and labor goes into production of 1 drop of oil, I think you would agree that the price is anything but high.
You might enjoy a video of how the oil is distilled by following this link:

Thanks for the information. I am very interested in learning about essential oils and would like to know how to make an natural air freshener, such as a plug-in for a physical rehabilitation center's bathroom.

Marcianne,
I am glad you're interested in using therapeutic grade essential oils.
There are different ways to inhale essential oils. The most therapeutic, economical and efficient is to diffuse them. However, for a bathroom area, I would either put a drop of oil in water or add a drop to potpourri.
If you need more info or would like to smell different oils, I would be happy to show them to you. You can either E-mail me at rainbow1_9@msn.com or call at: 201-444-5929.

There is also another simple way to purify the air - by putting cotton balls with a few drops of essential oil in the air vent .

Marcianne,
I thought to send you a link to Young Living diffusers:
http://www.youngliving.com/diffusers/oil-diffusers
The simplest one is the Travel Fan Diffuser which comes with a small bottle of Lavender essential oil.
Another very reasonable alternative would be to put orris root (either powder or dried) in a container & add essential oil of your choice:

I prefer Young Living Purification oil, which neutralizes mildew, cigarette smoke, and disagreeable odors.
