Your Favorite Italian Restaurant Winner: La Toscana

The River Edge pizzeria and restaurant won the first ever "Patch Favorite Italian Restaurant"

If the way to the heart is through the stomach, then our Patch readers have found the best place to indulge in fine Italian cuisine.

In our , voters cast their ballots for the restaurant that had the most delectable delights from Tuscany to Sicily all while staying in RiverDell.

Transporting you to Italy, the casual pizzeria and sit-down restaurant earned some of the highest reviews on Yelp with a four-and-a-half stars, Facebook and your comments. La Toscana also offers delivery and catering services for lunch and dinner options.

According to , La Toscana has "Delicious authentic Italian food, owned by a wonderful family."

"Great little Italian restaurant," Lawrence Farrell posted on Facebook. "Like an upscale pizzeria, its their meals that are outstanding. Try the Vodka sauce, parms, or Chicken Murphy. They're awesome. The family running the place is very nice too!"

"One evening at dinnertime I just needed a quick entree for myself and my wife so we called La Toscana for two orders of lasagna and I went to pick it up," Ben. R wrote on Yelp. "The lasagna exceeded my expectations - you won't be disappointed.  But let me caution you about one thing.  When I arrived home to serve up the food I couldn't believe how much there was. One order of lasagna is 4 servings. So, for the two of us, I should have ordered ONE lasagna. And there's complementary bread (pretty good) included on top of that. The Toscana lasagna is a typical italian "homemade style" lasagna, correctly prepared and with what seem to be quality ingredients - it's a great lasagna!"

La Toscana earned two five-star ratings on its  along with several user comments.

Also in the running this week was Anthony and Lisa DeMiglio's , who utilized Facebook this week to promote the contest and encourage patrons to vote. Sanducci's has an average four stars on Yelp.

"I believe that quality and consistency is key and being hands on as the owner and getting guest feedback is extremely important," said co-owner Lisa DeMiglio. "Our price point and specials that we offer as well as being a BYOB is attractive during these economic times. Training staff to be friendly and accommodating to guests in a casual comfortable atmosphere so all can feel welcome. Since the move our guests seem to love the ambiance of the new location."

Rounding out the competition were  and its three-and-half star rating and  three star rating.
