Weekend Highlights: Lady Hawks, N. Highlands Meet Again
Hawks and Crusaders athletics scheduled to compete around the County
Did you miss seeing the River Dell Lady Hawks pull off a stunning 49-44 win over the Lady Highlanders in the Holiday Hoop Jam finals earlier this month? Well the undefeated Lady Hawks (7-0) and Northern Highlands (5-2) will meet tomorrow during the the third annual North Jersey Breast Cancer Challenge at Park Ridge High School at 4pm.
Leading the Lady Hawks will be Kate Brock (11.1 points per game), Jill McGovern (5.3 assists per game), Kristen Eckert (1.7 blocks per game), Jenna Connolly (5.3 rebounds per game) and Meghan Cotter (2.4 steals per game).
The day-long tournament will raise funds for breast cancer research and feature Indian Hills girls' basketball coach Kim Tanis speaking to each of the eight teams that will compete about her experiences as a breast cancer survivor.
There is a $5 entry fee which is good for each of the four scheduled games: Indian Hills/Emerson at noon, Park Ridge/Waldwick at 2pm, River Dell/Northern Highlands at 4pm, and Rutherford/Cliffside Park at 6pm.
Also competing this weekend will be:
- Bergen Catholic wrestling at Roxbury High School, Saturday 9am
- River Dell wrestling at Dumont High School, Saturday 1pm
- Bergen Catholic basketball at Union High School, Saturday 4pm
- River Dell/Westwood swimming at Bergen Community College against Northern Highlands, Saturday 4:15pm
- River Dell/Westwood hockey at the Ice House against Paramus Catholic, Saturday 6:30pm.
On Sunday, head down to historic New Bridge Landing for the Bergen County Historical Society’s celebration of Twelfth Night at Historic New Bridge Landing, at the Campbell-Christie House, from 2 to 5 pm. Members and guests are invited to bring an old family recipe, favorite food, dessert or drink to share in an afternoon of good fellowship and New Year cheer. The Historical Society will cider, donuts, coffee and King's Cake. At 4pm, historian Kevin Wright will lead a tour of the Demarest and Steuben Houses.
