These Cuddly Kittens and Playful Canines Will Make Great Pets

Once again we bring you the pets of the week, featured at the Bergen County Animal Shelter in Teterboro.

Sheba is a female, shepherd mix who came to the shelter as a stray and is anxious to find her new forever home. Although she very curious of her surroundings, she is aware of her human friends and does enjoy affection on her own terms. This 7 year old is more on the independent side but enjoys attention. Even though we love to smother her with kisses and pets, she does not like to be restrained or handled, especially with her back feet. Once she's warmed up a bit, she reacts better with minimal handling but we do not encourage her new family to force the handling issue. It is believed that with time and patience she’ll come around and be able to trust her adopters. She has made improvements while at the shelter and has attended obedience classes where she did great. Young Sofia Grace, a Labrador retriever mix, is silly and fun with all the great qualities of her breed. Because she is still young and full of life, she will need plenty of physical and mental stimulation. Long walks and even runs/hikes will do her wonders and also help in the bonding process. Along with physical exercise, she will also need to be taught some basic obedience and manners. True to her breed, she is all for playing and engaging with her handlers. She may become too intense and take some things, such as treats and food, a bit too seriously therefore adopters will have to address this behavior sooner rather than later.
Chevy, a Pit Bull Terrier, came to the shelter as a stray and is such a sweetheart. She already has captured the hearts of many at the shelter. Her love for humans is endless and no matter whom she meets, she remains happy and joyful. At 3 years old, this 36-pound cutie will need plenty of physical and mental stimulation through walks, hikes and which will also help in the bonding process. Because this young lady has such a wonderful temperament, we believe she would do well with first time dog owners and/or younger kids (depending on how the meet and greet goes).
Fuzzy is one of the many kittens in need of a home at the shelter. He is about 8 to 10 weeks old. He will be neutered before leaving the shelter.
Gourdy is about 10 to 12 weeks old. He is a little shy at first, but with some loving arms and a little bit of patience he has the potential to make a wonderful pet. Gourdy gets along with other shelter kittens and will be neutered before leaving the shelter.
