For the third consecutive year, River Edge and Oradell will see no change in their municipal state aid amounts. At the same time, River Dell and Oradell school districts state aid will remain flat while the River Edge school district is expected to see a $23,483 increase in their school aid.
"Throughout my time in office I have continuously argued that in order to grow New Jersey's economy we must invest in education, and my proposed budget is a reflection of my commitment to our educational system and communities across the state," said Governor Christie in a press release.
Christie'sproposed 2014 budget includes nearly $9 billion in state aid, an increase of $97.3 million over Fiscal Year 2013. School districts were to either receive a flat state aid amount or an increase of $75 per pupil.
The Oradell school district will again receive $328,932 and River Dell will be awarded $632,193. The River Edge school district, which received $424,631 last year will now receive $448,114 which results in an additional $23,000 to the district.
River Edge is one of 34 school districts in Bergen County that will see a slight increase in their state aid. Approximately $2,853,507 in additional school funding for 2014 had been set aside for Bergen County schools.
"The $2,853,507 increase to Bergen County districts is part of a bold budget that continues to prioritize education and funds schools at the highest levels in New Jersey’s history,” Christie said in a press release. “However, even as we continue to fund education at the highest levels in state history, we must remain willing to reflect on how we are spending our money and work towards solutions that make every dollar we invest count.”
On the municipal side, Oradell is expected to receive $792,225 while River Edge will once again have $1,070,715 added to the budget. Both borough's have until late spring to introduce and approve their respective budgets.
River Dell will introduce their school budget on Monday night, 8pm at the high school, while the two K-6 districts are scheduled to introduce their respective budgets on Wednesday night, 7:30pm at Roosevelt School and Oradell Public School.
