Oradell Water Main Break Still Not Fixed One Week Later

Despite calls from Borough officials and residents, United Water still has not fixed last Tuesday's Church Street water main break.

A water main that burst on Church Street last Tuesday remains unfixed, despite calls to United Water from borough officials and residents, officials reported at Tuesday's meeting of the Oradell Mayor and Council. The break is adjacent to the Oradell Library parking lot.

According to Mayor Joseph Murray, the Superintendent of the DPW has been speaking with United Water about repairs, but they have not yet repaired it. Two residents in attendance said that they each spoke to a United Water representative and were told that the break would be fixed by today. As of Tuesday evening, the pipe remained broken.

However, United Water has placed a rock on top of the burst pipe and cordoned off the area with cones and a small horse. Still, water continues to flow steadily down Church Street and onto Kinderkamack Road.

"Are they serious?" one resident who did not wish to give her name asked as she stood looking at the water pouring out from beneath the rock and flowing down Church Street. "A major corporation and their solution to a water main break is to throw a rock down on the problem? Incredible. Absolutely incredible," she said as she shook her head.

Update: United Water arrived to work on fixing the break Wednesday.
