MSG Varsity Gears up for Friday Night Football with Bergen/St. Anthony's
The Cablevision channel dedicated to all things high school sports will have camera crews at several Bergen Catholic and River Dell games this season
The new Friday night football season is just around the corner and while the River Dell Golden Hawks will be playing host to West Essex in Oradell, MSG Varsity will be kicking off its fall line-up out on Long Island at the anticipated match-up between the Bergen Catholic Crusaders and St. Anthony's Friars.
Bergen, once again led by senior Jon Germano from the shotgun, is looking to start their ambitious season off with a bang following their 2011 campaign (8-3) where they lost to archrival Don Bosco in the Non-Public Group IV final.
The Friars finished 2011 (10-0) with a CHSFL Class AAA title in a 14-0 shutout of Stepinac last November and a school-record 29-game winning streak, the second-longest in Suffolk football history. Longtime Coach Rich Reichert won is 211th game in 25 seasons and he will once again tap junior Greg Galligan to start at quarterback.
The Crusaders/Friars match will be televised on Optimum TV Channel 14, throughout the entire tri-state region on Sept. 7, 7pm without a split to highlight any other local games.
“We are thrilled to be featuring what should be one of the most exciting match-ups of the fall season in the premiere of this year’s Friday Night Football,” said Michael Lardner, Executive Producer and Senior Vice President, MSG Varsity. “Bergen Catholic and St. Anthony’s are both great teams to watch.”
The team announcing the first game of the 2012 season of Friday Night Football will include former Don Bosco and Cal Berkeley quarterback Steve Levy, New York Giants great Amani Toomer and MSG Varsity football analyst, Jimmy Cavallo. Also featured will be Mike Quick lending his high school sports expertise for the pre-game, Suzy Stark and Chad Cutler providing all the action directly from the sideline.
Along with airing the Bergen/St. Anthony's game live, MSG Varsity will also have camera crews at the following games for September:
- Sept. 7, West Essex at River Dell (Football). Time to be determined for airing.
- Sept. 10, Mahwah at River Dell (Vollyeball). Time to be determined for airing
