McDonald's Seeks Approval for New Building This Week
A quick look at what is coming this week in River Dell
Representatives for the River Edge McDonald's are slated to appear before the River Edge Planning Board on Thursday, 8pm to request a variety of variance and waiver relief for their plans to demolish the existing building and construct a new one in its place. The sit-down, drive-thru fast food restaurant, located at 1118 Main Street, is seeking relief for parking (32 spaces instead of 41), elimination of a desingated loading space buffer and setbacks on the side and rear portions of the property as well as signage.
The Oradell Board of Education is meeting on Wednesday, 7:30pm at OPS.
Join Oradell resident, Jim Lessersohn, as he transports you into the world of baseball during The World of Baseball Economics on Monday, 7pm at the Oradell Public Library. Jim represented the New York Times Company on the Owners Committee of Fenway Sports Group, owner of the Boston Red Sox, for ten years. Return to the Library the following evening for the second Family Concert of the summer as Scott and Beth Bierko take the stage, 7pm.
Go Batty on Thursday at the River Edge Library with New Jersey's own Batman, Joseph D’Angeli, a licensed chiroptologist, as he dispels the myths and brings to your attention the role of bats in the environment. He will present a lecture, slide presentation, and live bats from 1:30 to 2:15pm for children ages 4 to 6 and then again 2:30 to 3:30pm for children age 7 and older.
The River Edge-based Neighbors Helping Neighbors Networking and Job Support group is hosting their first annual picnic in the park on Saturday, 12-3pm in Veteran's Memorial Park.

We have parking, loading, buffer and signage laws to protect the character of River Edge. If the changes are minor or trivial we should grant them. If the changes will not improve the aesthetics of River Edge we should not. 32 parking spaces instead of 41 is not in our best interests. If 41 is not possible how about 40? Signage should not be changed at all. Everybody knows it's a MacDonalds.

Todd, it's McDonalds, not MacDonalds. Let River Edge give them what they want, they have been there over 50 years and this, if approved, will be the 3rd reincarnation.
