Over the past few years, the River Dell Drama Club has watched its numbers grow from a small handful of actors and crew to a staggering 50 student actors and 20 crew members. This fall, the club is set to perform "The Greek Mythology Olympiaganza" from Nov. 17-19, 7pm at the high school auditorium.

Two battling narrators attempt to cover the entirety of Greek mythology using audience participation, cross-dressing, and general theatrical insanity.

Portraying the narrators are Dan Salerno and Elissa Hickey who described their characters as the lazy student (Salerno) and the uptight overachiever (Hickey).

"They have to give this school presentation on Greek mythology but have their fellow students reenact out the scenes to our interpretation," Hickey said.

"Basically I made her do all the work and am along for the ride," Salerno added.

Famous myths such as Pandora's Box, Jason and the Argonauts (the original Super Friends), and Hercules: Intern God jostle for space with obscure, weird myths such as the myth of Linus and the legend of the Argus.

"There is the botched-up love story of Orpheus and Eurydice and then the marital problems of Kronus, king of the titans," student director Samantha Surian said. "It's a funky take on mythology."

The student-led production is co-directed by Surian and Kate Senkier with the stage crew run by managers Allison DeNoble and Kevin Kirwan. Newly created this year is the position of creative designer while like director and stage manager is split between two students - Noelle Scanno and Agratta Sharma.

According to Sharma, among the biggest challenge for the fall play is a creation of the Pantheon.

"Previously we've been really creative, but this time we need to be exact," Sharma said.

"There are a lot more set pieces and it's more complicated this time," Scanno added.

Along with the Pantheon, the "Core Four" of Agratto, DeNoble, Kirwan and Scanno have been charged with the creation of Pandora's Box and a ship.

"This is the biggest stage crew we've had in years so the upside is we can delegate tasks for making the set pieces and props," DeNoble said.

"But it is hectic because there are so many students," Kirwan added. "We have to go over what's being built and modified, what still needs to be done, the location of props for the actors, who is in charge of moving items on and off stage in between acts. And then before the actual show going over lighting and sound too."

The entire performance culminates in a bizarre, musical dance-influenced version of The Iliad complete with a full-scale battle of little green army men, this play is wild, silly, and a complete blast for audiences of all ages.

"The club has built up so much that we'll actually have seven full run throughs before opening night," Surian said. "We are ahead of schedule which is rare. But I'm proud of this group and it will be an awesome show."
