Ex-Girlfriend Arrested in Connecticut for River Edge Double Homicide

Authorities have arrested and charged an ex-girlfriend in connection with a double homicide after the bodies of a former boyfriend and another woman were found inside a River Edge home Wednesday afternoon.

Monica Mogg, 49, who is believed to be the 52-year-old male victim's former girlfriend, was arrested in Connecticut, and now faces two counts of murder.

River Edge Police and the Bergen County Prosecutor's Office descended upon the 700 block of Millbrook Road after the discovery of the two bodies inside the home. The other victim was a 42-year-old woman. 

Both are believed to have been shot and stabbed, although no weapons have been found, authorities said. 

The victims' names were not released, as the families have yet to be notified, authorities said. 

Authorities stressed Wednesday night that the murders were not acts of violence in the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy. 

"The early investigation indicates tht this was not a random act nor was it related to the power outages or hurricane," River Edge Police Chief Thomas Cariddi said.

The murder is believed to have taken place sometime on Oct. 30, but members of the REPD located the victims Wednesday afternoon. 

"The two victims were acquainted with one another and it is believed that Mogg knew and had a prior relationship with the male victim," Bergen County Prosecutor John Molinelli said in a press release.

"Reports that this homicide was a random act, brought about by the darkness caused by Hurricane Sandy, are unfounded. River Edge residents need not fear that this was a random act."

Mogg is believed to have fled to Connecticut after the two alleged murders. Upon her extradition to New Jersey, additional charges may be lodged against her, according to a press release issued by the Prosecutor's Office. No bail has been set at this time.

The exact type of firearm and knife will be determined following an examination by the Bergen County Medical Office, police said.
