Cywinski Defends Mayor's Cup Title
The Demarest Republican once again beat out Westwood's John Birkner for this year's bragging rights
For the second year in a row, Demarest Republican Mayor Ray Cywinski claimed the Reservoir Challenge Mayor's Cup as he beat out Westwood's John Birkner by a boat length.
In the fourth year of the annual event, Birkner claimed the title the first two years but has been narrowly beaten since then. Oradell Council President James Koth claimed third place while River Edge Mayor Sandy Moscaritolo and New Milford Mayor Ann Subrizi competed for the first time.
The Mayor’s Cup was one of three races Saturday at the Oradell Reservoir, which is normally off-limits to kayakers and canoes. Once a year though, water enthusiasts are allowed on the water during the fundraising event for the Hackensack Riverkeeper.
Approximately 200 people took to the water this weekend and helped raise over $10,000 for the Riverkeeper.

Maybe they'll let Mayor Ann lower the dam for the next flood.
